Indications & Dose: FIRST OCCURRENCE OF NEURAL TUBE DEFECTS Prophylactic therapy PO Adult 400-500µg/day before conception & during the first 12wk of pregnancy | FOLATE-DEFICIENCY ANEMIA/MEGALOBLASTIC ANEMIA PO Adult 5mg/day 4 months (in pregnancy continued to term), may be increased to 15mg/day in case of malabsorption | RECURRENCE OF NEURAL TUBE DEFECTS Prophylactic therapy PO Adult 5mg/day 4 wk before conception until 12th week of pregnancy |
| Contra: Hypersensitivity, undiagnosed megaloblastic anemia, pernicious, aplastic, normocytic anemia
