ANTIBIOTIC | URINARY TRACT ANTI-INFECTIVE
PK: A: Well absorbed D: 0.8 L/kg (Vd) M: Hepatic & body tissues E: Urine

Indications & Dose: URINARY TRACT INFECT PO Adult 50-100mg QID 1 wk or at least 3 days after obtaining sterile urine Child >1 month: 5-7mg/kg/day in divided doses q6h, max 400 mg/day. Continue for 7 days/at least 3 days after obtaining sterile urine | Prophylactic therapy PO Adult 50-100mg/dose HS Child 1-2mg/kg/day in divided doses q12-24h, max 100mg/day

Contra: Hypersensitivity, significant renal impairment, infants <3 months, G6PD-deficiency, porphyria

Precautions: Pulmonary disorders, neurological/allergic disorders, DM, hepatic impairment, elderly & debilitated patients, Vit B & folate deficiency, anemia

ADR: Serious: Hypersensitivity reactions, anaphylaxis, angioedema, pancreatitis, pulmonary fibrosis, lupus erythematosus-like syndrome, peripheral neuropathy, benign intracranial HTN, hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice, arthralgia, blood disorders, Others: urticaria, rash, pruritus, exfoliative dermatitis, erythema multiforme, transient alopecia, nausea, GI disorders

DDI: Serious Diphenoxylate/Antimuscarinics increases drug absorption, Sulfinpyrazone/Probenecid increases drug toxicity & decreases its efficacy, Fluconazole leads to hepatic & pulmonary toxicity, Pyridoxine leads to Paraesthesias, Metoclopramide/Magnesium trisilicate reduces drug absorption

Diet: With food

Monitor: Signs of pulmonary reaction, numbness or tingling of the extremities, CBC, LFTs, periodic renal function tests with long-term use
