DIRECTLY ACTING PARASYMPATHOMIMETIC | ANTI-GLAUCOMA
PK: E: Urine

Indications & Dose: DRY MOUTH DUE TO RADIOTHERAPY PO Adult Initially 5mg TID, increased gradually if necessary after 4 wk until an adequate response is obtained, max 10mg TID. Stop treatment if no improvement occurs after 3 months | GLAUCOMA TP Adult Solution (1-4%): Instill 1-2 drops upto 6 times/day, adjust the concentration & frequency as required to control increased IOP; GEL (4%): Inserted into the conjunctival sac that releases 20/40µg/h for 1 wk

Contra: severe hepatic impairment, acute iritis/angle-closure glaucoma, acute iritis, acute uveitis/anterior uveitis, acute inflammatory disease of the anterior segment of the eye, patients wearing soft contact lenses, before eye surgery

Precautions: avoid dehydration & maintain an adequate fluid intake, cognitive/psychiatric disturbances, renal calculi/renal impairment, biliary-tract disorders, stop the drug if symptoms of systemic toxicity develop, patients with history of retinal detachment, young patients with myopia, patients with corneal/conjunctival damage

ADR: Serious: increased urinary frequency, blurred vision, paradoxical HTN, conjunctival vascular congestion, vitreous hemorrhage, superficial keratitis, Others: sweating, lachrymation, constipation, confusion, dizziness, ciliary spasm, ocular pain/irritation, myopia & brow ache

DDI: Serious β-blockers leads to conduction disorders
