SUXAMETHONIUM
NEUROMUSCULAR BLOCKER (DEPOLARISING) | SKELETAL MUSCLE RELAXANT

Indications & Dose: MUSCLE RELAXANTS AFTER ANESTHESIA IV Adult Initially 0.3-1.1mg/kg, supplementary dose of 50-100% of initial dose may be given at 5-10min intervals max 500mg/h Child <1 yr: 2mg/kg, 1-12 yr: 1mg/kg | IM Adult 3-4mg/kg, max 150mg Child Neonate: 4mg/kg, 1 month–1 yr: 4–5mg/kg, 1–12 yr: up to 4mg/kg max 150mg

Contra: History of atypical plasma cholinesterase, hypersensitivity, glaucoma, severe hyperkalemia, renal impairment, severe burns, massive trauma, malignant hyperthermia

Precautions: Raised IOP, respiratory disease, CVD, children, bone fracture

ADR: Serious: rhabdomyolysis, tachycardia, cardiac arrest, bradycardia, arrhythmias, hypotension, increases IOP, respiratory depression, Others: bronchospasm, increase in salivary, bronchial & gastric secretions, flushing, skin rash

DDI: Serious GA/Fentanyl/Propofol causes bradycardia, Digoxin causes serious cardiac arrhythmias, Dimpylate/Dexpanthenol/Diuretics/Ecothiopate/H2RA/Lithium/Local anesthetics/Magnesium sulphate/Malathion/MAOIs/Metoclopramide/Quinidine increases & prolongs neuromuscular blockade, Cyclophosphamide increases drug efficacy, Quinine leads to recurarisation & dyspnea, Trimetaphan prolongs apnea, Ephedrine reduces onset time of drug
