Indications & Dose: ALVEOLAR ECHINOCOCCOSIS PO Adult >60 kg: 800mg/day in 2 divided doses 28 days followed by 14 tablet-free days, <60 kg: 15mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses, max 800mg 28 days followed by 14 tablet-free days & continued for months/years | ASCARIASIS Acute PO Adult 400mg single dose Child 12 month–2 yr: 200mg single dose, > 2 yr: Same as adult dose | CAPILLARIASIS Acute PO Adult 400mg/day 10 days Child >2 yr: same as adult dose | CYSTIC ECHINOCOCCOSIS Acute PO Adult >60 kg: 800mg/day in 2 divided doses 28 days followed by 14 tablet-free days, <60 kg: 15mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses, max 800mg 28 days followed by 14 tablet-free days, may be used 3 courses | ENTEROBIASIS Acute PO Adult 400mg single dose Child 12 month–2 yr: 200mg single dose, > 2 yr: Same as adult dose | GIARDIASIS Acute PO Adult 400mg single dose Child 12 month–2 yr: 200mg single dose, > 2 yr: Same as adult dose | HOOKWORM INFECT Acute PO Adult 400mg single dose Child 12 month–2 yr: 200mg single dose, > 2 yr: Same as adult dose | NEUROCYSTICERCOSIS Acute PO Adult >60 kg: 800mg/day BID 8–30 days, <60 kg: 15mg/kg/day BID, max 800mg 8–30 days | STRONGYLOIDIASIS Acute PO Adult 400mg OD/BID 3 days Child >2 yr: same as adult dose | TRICHOSTRONGYLIASIS Acute PO Adult 400mg single dose Child 12 month–2 yr: 200mg single dose, > 2 yr: Same as adult dose | TRICHURIASIS PO Adult Moderate infect: 400mg single dose, Severe infect: 400mg/day 3 days Child 12 month-2 yr: Moderate infect: 200mg single dose, Severe infect: Initially 200mg then 100mg BID 3 days, >2 yr: same as adult dose |

Precautions: Hepatic/renal impairment ADR: Serious: ARF, hepatitis, thrombocytopenia, meningeal signs, rash, allergic shock if cyst leaks, urticaria, Others: fever, GI disturbances, headache, dizziness, alopecia, leukopenia, pancytopenia DDI: Serious Levamisole decrease the drug bioavailability, Phenobarbital/Carbamazepine/Phenytoin decreases drug level, Dexamethasone increases drug level, Grapefruit juice increases the plasma levels of albendazole sulfoxide (drug metabolite), Cimetidine prolongs the half-life of drug Diet: With high fat meal Monitor: LFTs, CBC & ophthalmic exam |
