Indications & Dose: ACNE PO Adult 250-500mg BID | BRONCHITIS PO Adult 500mg QID | ERLICHIOSIS PO Adult 500mg QID 1-2 wk | NON-GONOCOCCAL URETHRITIS PO Child 12–18 yr: 500mg QID 1-2 wk (21 days if failure or relapse after first course) | PEPTIC ULCER PO Adult 500mg BID/QID with at least one other antibiotic and an acid-suppressing agent | PLEURAL EFFUSIONS Intrapleural Adult 500mg dissolved in 30-50mL of Nacl (0.9%) solution instilled into the pleural space | VIBRIO CHOLERA PO Adult 500mg QID 3 days |
Contra: Hypersensitivity, children <8 yrs, SLE
Precautions: Hepatic/renal impairment, nephropathy, photosensitivity, pseudotumor cerebri, superinfection ADR: Serious: pericarditis, bulging fontanels in infants, increased ICP, pseudotumor cerebri, photosensitivity, hepatotoxicity, ARF, azotemia, anaphylaxis, pancreatitis, Others: nail pigmentation, pruritus, abdominal cramps, anorexia, antibiotic-associated pseudomembranous colitis, diarrhea, tooth discoloration, vomiting, nausea, enamel hypoplasia, exfoliative dermatitis DDI: Serious Hormonal Contraceptives efficacy is decreased, Diuretics increases blood urea nitrogen level, Ergotamine/Dihydroergotamine leads to ergotism, Isotretinoin/Acitretin leads to pseudotumour cerebri, Atovaquone level is reduced, Quinine/Digoxin/Theophylline levels are increased, Antacids reduces drug efficacy, Methotrexate toxicity occurs Diet: 1h before/2h after food Monitor: Renal function test, LFT & hematologic function test, temperature, WBC, cultures and sensitivity, appetite, mental status |
