Indications & Dose: CROHN’S DISEASE Mild-to-moderate PO Adult Delayed release tab:3.2-4.8g/day; ER caps: 4g/day | DISTAL ULCERATIVE COLITIS RECTAL Adult Suppositories: 1g OD HS, Enema susp: 4g OD 3-6wk | REMISSION OF CROHN’S DISEASE Maintenance therapy PO Adult Delayed release tab: 0.8-4.8g/day; ER caps:1.5-3g/day in divided doses | REMISSION OF ULCERATIVE COLITIS Maintenance therapy PO Adult Delayed release tablet: four 400mg in divided doses (1.6g/day)or 0.8-4.8g in divided doses 6 months, ER capsule: 1.5-3g | ULCERATIVE COLITIS Mild-to-moderate PO Adult Delayed release tablet: 400mg TID 6wk | Mild-to-moderate PO Adult Induction of remission: ER capsule: Four 250mg or two 500mg QID 8 wk, Delayed release tablet: 2.4 or 4.8g/day (given as two or four 1.2g tablets/day | Mild-to-moderate PO Adult Treatment: ER caps: Four 250mg or two 500mg QID 8wk |
Contra: Hypersensitivity, severe renal/hepatic impairment
Precautions: Elderly, mild-to-moderate renal/hepatic impairment, sulfasalazine allergy, PUD, pericarditis/myocarditis, pyloric stenosis ADR: Serious: pharyngitis, increased liver enzyme values, hematocrit, arthralgia, myalgia, hypertonia, paresthesia, tinnitus, pericarditis, pancreatitis, nephrotic syndrome, interstitial nephritis, lupus-like syndrome, peripheral neuropathy, blood disorders, Others: headache, nausea, diarrhea, alopecia, abdominal pain, vision abnormalities, conjunctivitis, rash, pruritus, diaphoresis DDI: Serious Lactulose/Lactitol/Laxatives decreases colonic pH, Warfarin efficacy decreases, Mercaptopurine/Azathioprine increases haematological toxicity Diet: With/without food Monitor: Renal function,CBC |
