Indications & Dose: SHIGELLOSIS Acute PO Adult 4g/day 4 divided doses 2wk | Chronic PO Adult 2g/day 4 divided doses 2wk | URINARY TRACT INFECT PO Adult 1g QID 2wk, then suppressive therapy of 500mg QID Child 3 month-12yr: 55mg/kg/day in 4 divided doses, suppressive therapy of 30mg/kg/day in 4 divided doses |
Contra: History of convulsive disorders, severe renal impairment, infants
Precautions: hepatic impairment, severe cerebral arteriosclerosis, G6PD deficiency, moderate renal impairment ADR: Serious: arthralgia, tendon damage, toxic psychoses, convulsions, intracranial HTN, SJS, angioedema, Others: metabolic acidosis, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, urticaria, pruritus, erythema multiforme, fever, eosinophilia, dizziness, drowsiness, depression, hallucination DDI: Serious Acenocoumarol causes hypoprothrombinemia, Nitrofurantoin effect antagonizes, Coumarins increases bleeding time, Probenecid increases drug level |
