Indications & Dose: IMMUNIZATION AGAINST TYPHOID FEVER PO Adult One dose (an attenuated strain of Salmonella typhi, Ty 21a, & given as enteric-coated capsules containing >2 × 109 bacteria per dose) given on days 1, 3, 5, and 7 (total of 4 doses) Child >5 yr: Same as adult dose | IM/SC Adult 1 dose of 0.5mL with reinforcing doses q3yr for those at continued risk Child >2 yr: Same as adult doseVI capsular polysaccharide vaccine |
Contra: hypersensitivity, severely immunosuppressed children, HIV-positive children, malignant disease treated with chemotherapy/radiotherapy, immunosuppressive therapy, transplantation, high-dose systemic corticosteroids, antibiotics
Precautions: acute illness, neurological conditions, alcohol/disinfectant, should give 3wks before/3months after use of immunoglobulin ADR: Serious: inflammation, lymphangitis, myalgia, influenza-like symptoms, arthralgia, lymphadenopathy, hypersensitivity reactions, bronchospasm, angioedema, anaphylaxis, hypotension, tremor, Others: pain, redness, an induration/sterile abscess, GI disturbances, fever, headache, irritability, loss of appetite, fatigue, dizziness, paraesthesia, asthenia, drowsiness, rash, urticaria, malaise, muscular & skeletal pain, pruritus Monitor: Syncope for >=15 min of vaccination |
