Indications & Dose: PRIMARY IMMUNIZATION OF CHILDREN AGAINST POLIOMYELITIS PO Child 3 drops at birth and at 6, 10, and at 14 wks of age; reinforcing immunization of children against poliomyelitis, 3 drops at least 3 yrs after completion of primary course and a further 3 drops at 15–19 years of age | PRIMARY IMMUNIZATION OF UNIMMUNIZED ADULT AGAINST POLIOMYELITIS PO Adult 3 doses, each of 3 drops, with an interval of at least 4 wks between each dose; reinforcing immunization of adults against poliomyelitis, 3 drops 10 years after completion of primary course |
Contra: hypersensitivity, severely immunosuppressed children, HIV-positive children, malignant disease treated with chemotherapy/radiotherapy, immunosuppressive therapy, transplantation, high-dose systemic corticosteroids
Precautions: acute illness, neurological conditions, alcohol/disinfectant, should give 3wks before/3months after use of immunoglobulin, patients with diarrhoea/vomiting ADR: Serious: Guillain-barre syndrome, encephalomyelitis, Others: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, cramps, diarrhea DDI: Serious Corticosteroids may develop generalised life-threatening infections, Immunosuppressants reduces antibody response to vaccines |
