Indications & Dose: SCHIZOPHRENIA PO Adult Initially 10-50mg/day in 2-3 divided doses, MD 20-40mg/day max 100mg/day | IM Adult 50-150mg (as acetate) may be repeated in 2-3 days, do not give more than 4 inj during treatment course max 400mg during treatment course |
Contra: Hypersensitivity, severe CNS depression, coma, suspected/established subcortical brain damage, circulatory collapse, blood dyscrasias, pheochromocytoma, acute intoxication, QT prolongation, bone marrow suppression
Precautions: severe CVD, narrow angle glaucoma, hepatic impairment, myasthenia gravis, parkinson’s disease, respiratory disease, seizure disorder, children, CNS depression, decreased GI motility, paralytic ileus, urinary retention, BPH, xerostomia, visual problems, risk of pneumonia, strenuous exercise, heat exposure, dehydration ADR: Serious: blurred vision, mydriasis, tachycardia, ECG changes, cardiac arrhythmias, orthostatic hypotension, delirium, NMS, convulsions, hypersensitivity reactions, jaundice, hematological disorders, hyperprolactinemia, extrapyramidal dysfunction, Others: weight gain, hyperglycemia, altered glucose tolerance, pain & irritation, photosensitivity reactions, impotence, somnolence, dry mouth, constipation, difficulty with micturition, agitation, catatonic-like states, insomnia, drowsiness, depression DDI: Serious Lithium causes neurotoxicity, Moclobemide increases adverse effects, Antidiabetics increases risk of glucose intolerance, Alcohol leads to CNS depression Monitor: Vital signs; lipid profile, fasting blood glucose, Hgb A1c, BMI, mental status, EPS |
