Indications & Dose: BACTERIAL INFECT IN OTITIS EXTERNA TP Adult Applied as ear drops (5 or 10%) | EYE INFECT TP Adult Applied as 0.5% solution or as 1% ointment | MENINGITIS IV Adult 50-100mg/kg/day in divided doses q6h, max 4g/day Child 75-100mg/kg/day divided q6h including infants >30 days | PLAGUE IV Adult 25mg/kg QID 10 days Child > 2 yr: Same as adult dose | TULAREMIA IV Adult 15mg/kg QID 2-3 wk Child Same as adult dose |
Contra: Hypersensitivity, treatment of trivial/viral infect, bacterial prophylaxis, pre-existing bone-marrow depression/blood dyscrasias, repeated courses & prolonged treatment
Precautions: Hepatic/renal impairment, G6PD deficiency, neonates ADR: Serious: Blood disorders, aplastic anemia, bone marrow depression, angioedema, anaphylaxis, gray syndrome in neonates, peripheral neuropathy, optic neuritis, vision loss, colitis, ototoxicity, Others: pruritus, dry mouth, rash, itching, contact dermatitis, fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, glossitis, confusion, delirium, depression, headache DDI: Serious Tolbutamide/Chlorpropamide blood glucose-lowering effects reduces by drug, Phenytoin level increases by drug, Tacrolimus/Ciclosporin level markedly increases by drug, Phenobarbital markedly reduces serum drug levels, Vit B12/Iron compounds opposes treatment of anemias, Rifampicin reduces drug level Monitor: CBC with DC, LFTs, renal function tests, Se drug level |
