Indications & Dose: ANTACID PO Adult Dosage based on neutralizing capacity of product OR 5-10mL q2h, max 7000mg/day | AS AN ANTACID (DURING PREGNANCY/LACTATION) PO Adult 9-18 yr: 1.3g/day; 19-50yr: 1g/day; = 51yr: 1.2g/day | DIETARY SUPPLEMENTATION PO Adult 500mg-2g in 2-4 divided doses | HYPERPHOSPHATEMIA IN CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE PO Adult 2.5g/day in divided doses, may be increase up to 17g/day in divided doses as needed Child 1 month-1 yr: 120mg, 1-6 yr: 300mg, 6-12 yr: 600mg, 12-18 yr: 1.25g | OSTEOPOROSIS PO Adult >51 yr: 1.2g/day |
Contra: Patients with calcium renal calculi/history of renal calculi, hypercalcemia
Precautions: Renal impairment, patients with respiratory acidosis/respiratory failure, sarcoidosis, history of nephrolithiasis ADR: Serious: hypercalcemia, Others: alkalosis, milk-alkali syndrome, tissue calcification, gastric hypersecretion & acid rebound, Constipation, flatulence DDI: Serious Chloroquine absorption is reduced, Ferrous Sulphate absorption reduces by drug, Levothyroxine efficacy reduces by drug, Thiazides leads to hypercalcemia & metabolic alkalosis, Tetracycline levels & efficacy markedly reduces or abolishes by drug |
