Indications & Dose: TUBERCULOSIS PO Adult Initially 250mg BID 14 days, then 500mg-1g/day in divided doses Child 2-12 yr: 5mg/kg BID, 12-18 yr: 250mg BID 2 wk, then adjusted to max 1g/day |
Contra: Severe renal impairment, epilepsy, depression, severe anxiety, psychotic states, alcohol dependence, acute porphyria
Precautions: Hold the drug/reduce the dose if skin reactions/symptoms of CNS toxicity develop ADR: Serious: tremor, convulsions, megaloblastic anemia, changes in LFTs, Others: confusion, psychosis, depression, rashes, allergic dermatitis, Headache, dizziness, vertigo, drowsiness DDI: Serious Isoniazid increases CNS adverse effects, Alcohol increases the risk of epileptic episodes, Ethionamide potentiates neurotoxic adverse effects |
