Drugs Class ::
Action Significantly lowers serum estradiol concentrations by inhibiting aromatase, a mediary of endogenous estradiol production. There is no detectable effect on formation of adrenal corticosteroids or aldosterone.
Indications for Drugs ::
Indications First-line treatment of postmenopausal women with hormone receptor positive or hormone receptor unknown locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer; second-line treatment of advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women with disease progression following tamoxifen therapy; adjuvant treatment of postmenopausal women with hormone receptor positive early breast cancer.

Route/Dosage
First and Second-Line Therapy: ADULTS: PO 1 mg qd until tumor progression is evident.

Adverse Reactions
CARDIOVASCULAR: Chest pain; hypertension; thromboembolic disease; thrombophlebitis; vasodilation. CNS: Anxiety; confusion; depression; dizziness; headache; hypertonia; insomnia; nervousness; somnolence. DERMATOLOGIC: Hair thinning; hot flushes; pruritus; rash GI: Abdominal pain; anorexia; constipation; diarrhea; nausea; vomiting. GU: Breast pain; leukorrhea; pelvic pain; urinary tract infection; vaginal dryness; vaginal hemorrhage. HEMATOLOGIC: Anemia; leukopenia. HEPATIC: Increated AST, gamma GT, and ALT. METABOLIC: Alkaline phosphatase increased. RESPIRATORY: Bronchitis; cough increased; dyspnea; pharyngitis; rhinitis; sinusitis. OTHER: Accidental injury; asthenia; pain; back pain; bone pain; depression; edema; fever; flu-like symptoms; increased appetite; infection; lethargy; malaise; peripheral edema; sweating; weight gain.
