Indications & Dose: AMEBIASIS PO Adult 500-750mg TID 5-10 days Child 35-50mg/kg/day in divided doses TID 10 days | ANAEROBIC INFECT PO Adult 500mg TID/QID, max 4g/day Child 15-35mg/kg/day in divided doses q8h | IV Adult 500mg TID/QID, max 4g/day Child 30mg/kg/day in divided doses q6h | ANTIBIOTIC ASSOCIATED COLITIS/DIARRHEA IV Adult 500-750mg q6-8h | BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS VAG Adult One applicatorful (~37.5 mg) OD/BID 5 days | GIARDIASIS PO Adult 500mg BID for 5-7days Child 1-3 yr: 500mg OD 3 days, 3-7 yr: 600-800mg OD 3 days, 7-10 yr: 1g OD 3 days, 10-18 yr: 2g OD 3 days or 400mg TID 5 days or 500mg BID 7-10 days | PEPTIC ULCER PO Adult 400mg BID/TID 1 wk with other antibacterials & PPIs | ROSACEA TP Adult Cream/lotion (0.75%): Apply a thin film to the cleansed & affected area twice daily. Adjust the dose based on response, continue for 21 wk | SURGICAL PROPHYLAXIS PO Child 1 month-12 yr: 30mg/kg, max 500mg 2h before procedure, 12-18 yr: 400-500mg 2h before procedure may be increased to further 3 doses of 400-500mg TID for high-risk procedures | IV Adult Inf: 15mg/kg over 30-60 mins 1h before surgery. If required 7.5mg/kg may be given at 6 & 12h after the initial dose Child Inf: 1 month-12 yr: 30mg/kg, max 500mg up to 30 min before procedure, 12-18 yr: 500mg up to 30 min before procedure, up to 3 further doses of 500mg may be given q8h for high-risk procedures | TETANUS PO Child 30mg/kg/day in 4 divided doses | Adjunct therapy IV Adult 500mg q6h 7-10 days Child 30mg/kg/day in 4 divided doses | TRICHOMONIASIS PO Adult 250mg TID 7 days or 2g as single dose or 1g BID on same day Child 1-3 yr: 50mg TID 7 days, 3-7 yr: 100mg BID 7 days, 7-10 yr: 100mg TID 7 days, 10-18 yr: 200mg TID 7 days

ADR: Serious: Leukopenia, Others: Dizziness, headache, ataxia, vertigo, incoordination, insomnia, fatigue, rhinitis, sinusitis, pharyngitis, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, furry tongue, glossitis, dry mouth, anorexia, dysuria, dark urine, incontinence, rash, urticaria, burning, mild skin dryness, skin irritation, transient redness, superinfection, phlebitis at Inj site

DDI: Serious Disulfiram causes acute psychoses & confusion, Alcohol causes disulfiram-like reaction, Phenytoin half-life prolonged by drug, Mebendazole increases the risk of SJS/TEN, Ciclosporin levels increases by drug, Busulfan levels increases by drug & increases its toxicity, Phenobarbital markedly increases drug metabolism (treatment failure), Warfarin markedly increases INR & increase the risk of hemorrhage, Fluorouracil toxicity increases by drug, Lithium toxicity may occur
