Indications & Dose: DIAGNOSIS OF PHEOCHROMOCYTOMA IV/IM Adult 5mg Child 0.05-0.1mg/kg/dose, max single dose 5mg | HYPERTENSIVE CRISIS IV/IM Adult 5-20mg | SURGERY FOR PHEOCHROMOCYTOMA IV/IM Adult 5mg given 1-2h before procedure, repeat if needed q2-4h Child 0.05-0.1mg/kg/dose given 1-2h before procedure, repeat if needed q2-4h until hypertension is controlled, max single dose 5mg | TREATMENT OF ALPHA-ADRENERGIC AGONIST DRUG EXTRAVA SC Adult Infiltrate area with small amount of solution made by diluting 5-10mg in 10mL 0.9% NaCl within 12h of extravasation, max 0.1-0.2mg/kg Child Infiltrate area with a small amount of a 0.5-1mg/mL solution (made by diluting 5-10mg in 10 mL of NS) within 12h of extravasation, max 0.1-0.2mg/kg |
Contra: Hypersensitivity, coronary artery disease, MI/history of MI, angina, coronary insufficiency
Precautions: concurrent use of cardiac glycosides, gastritis/peptic ulcer ADR: Serious: Acute & prolonged hypotension, orthostatic hypotension, tachycardia, arrhythmias, MI & cerebrovascular spasm, angina, Others: Weakness, dizziness, nasal congestion, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, flushing DDI: Serious Adrenaline causes severe hypotension & tachycardia Monitor: BP, HR, infiltration area, assist patient with ambulation |
