Indications for Drugs ::
Dry eye, Burning, Red eye, Eye irritation, Discomfort of the eye
Drug Dose ::
Usual Adult Dose for: Eye Redness/Itching Usual Pediatric Dose for: Eye Redness/Itching Additional dosage information: Precautions Usual Adult Dose for Eye Redness/Itching Instill 1 to 2 drops in the affected eye(s) up to 4 times daily. Usual Pediatric Dose for Eye Redness/Itching >=6 years: Instill 1 to 2 drops in the affected eye(s) up to 4 times daily.

Drug Precautions ::
Sympathomimetics are generally contraindicated in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma. Contact lenses should be removed before use. Patients should be instructed to avoid allowing the tip of the container to contact the eye, eyelid, fingers or any other surface. Overuse may result in rebound congestion. Patients should be advised to discontinue use and notify their physician if their condition worsens or lasts for more than 72 hours.
Drug Side Effects ::
Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome: Blurred vision; minor stinging or tingling when the medicine is dropped into the eye. Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur while taking tetrahydrozoline / zinc sulfate ophthalmic: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); changes in vision; eye pain; worsening or persistent eye irritation or redness.

Drug Mode of Action ::
Tetryzoline is a sympathomimetic with alpha-adrenergic activity with little or no effect on beta-adrenergic receptors. Phenylephrine is a sympathomimetic with mainly direct effects on alpha-adrenergic receptors and weak beta-adrenergic activity. It causes vasoconstriction of the arterioles of the nasal mucosa and conjunctiva; activates the dilator muscle of the pupil to cause contraction; produces vasoconstriction of arterioles in the body and produces systemic arterial vasoconstriction. Zinc: Cofactor in over 100 enzymes; plays a role in DNA synthesis; supports a healthy immune system; helps maintain a sense of smell and taste; may assist in porper function of insulin.
