Indications & Dose: CLOSED-ANGLE GLAUCOMA Acute IV Adult 250-500mg, may repeat in 2-4h, max 1g/day | EDEMA Mild-to-moderate Adjuvant therapy PO/IV Adult 250-375mg/day Child 5mg/kg/day | EPILEPSY Chronic Adjuvant therapy PO Adult 8-30mg/kg/day in 1-4 divided doses max 1g/day Child Up to 12 yr: Initially 2.5mg/kg BID/TID, MD 5-7mg/kg BID/TID | GLAUCOMA PO Child 8-30mg/kg/day | IV Child 20-40mg/kg/day divided q6h max 1g/day | MOUNTAIN SICKNESS Mild PO Adult Prevention/treatment: 125-250mg BID | Moderate PO Adult 250mg BID | OPEN-ANGLE GLAUCOMA Chronic Adjuvant therapy PO Adult 250mg 1-4 times/day, ER capsule: 500mg BID |
Contra: Hypersensitivity, hepatic impairment, decreased Na/K levels, adrenocortical insufficiency, hyperchloremic acidosis, CRF, severe pulmonary obstruction
Precautions: acidosis, DM ADR: Serious: SJS, TEN, hypoglycemia, hypokalemia, hyponatremia, metabolic acidosis, renal failure, cholestatic jaundice, hepatic necrosis, thrombocytopenia, renal calculi, Others: confusion, depression, dizziness, drowsiness, excitement, fatigue, fever, headache, malaise, growth retardation (children), libido, reduced appetite, diarrhea, melena, nausea, vomiting, taste alteration, paresthesia, polyuria DDI: Serious Timolol causes mixed acidosis, NSAIDs leads to ARF, Aspirin leads to severe life-threatening toxic reactions Diet: With food Monitor: IOP, serum electrolytes, periodic CBC with differential, monitor growth in pediatric patients |
