Indications & Dose: ACROMEGALY PO Adult Initially 1.25-2.5mg/day increase by 1.25-2.5mg/day as necessary q3-7days up to max 100mg/day. Usual dosage range is 20-30mg/dayadjunct to surgery & radiotherapy | HYPERPROLACTINEMIA PO Adult 1.25-2.5mg/day, increase by 2.5mg/day as tolerated q2-7days until optimal response Child 11-15 yrs: Initially 1.25-2.5mg/day, dose may be increased as tolerated up to 2.5-10mg/day to achieve a therapeutic response, >16 yrs: Same as adult dose | INFERTILITY PO Adult 2.5mg BID | PARKINSON’S DISEASE PO Adult 1.25mg BID, increased by 2.5mg/day in 2-4 wk intervals as needed, max 100mg/day | PREMENSTRUAL SYMPTOMS PO Adult Initiate 2.5mg BID on day 14 of the cycle until menstruation begins |
Contra: Hypersensitivity, uncontrolled HTN, postpartum/puerperium in women with HTN, symptoms/history of serious psychiatric disorders, ergot alkaloids during the puerperium, glucose-galactose malabsorption
Precautions: CVD, Raynaud’s syndrome, history of psychosis, hepatic impairment, renal disease, HTN, pituitary tumor, galactose intolerance, severe lactose deficiency ADR: Serious: Seizures, CVA, arrhythmias, bradycardia, acute MI, GI hemorrhage, hypotension, diplopia, Others: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal cramps, anorexia, dry mouth, urinary incontinence, polyuria, urinary retention, leg cramps, urticaria, coolness & pallor of fingers/toes, rash, alopecia, headache, dizziness, fatigue, mania, insomnia, nightmares, palpitations, extrasystoles, blurred vision DDI: Serious Antihypertensives causes HTN, severe headache, seizures & psychosis Diet: With food Monitor: BP, LFTs, hematopoietic & cardiovascular function, visual field monitoring, growth hormone (acromegaly) & prolactin levels, Hb A1c & serum glucose |
