Indications & Dose: HYPERPROLACTINEMIC DISORDERS PO Adult Initially 0.25mg twice weekly, increase by 0.25mg twice weekly, max 1mg twice weekly based on serum prolactin level, dose increments q4wk. Discontinue if normal serum prolactin level is maintained for 6 monthsEither idiopathic/due to pituitary adenomas | PARKINSON’S DISEASE PO Adult Initially 0.5mg OD as monotherapy or 1mg in adjunctive therapy, dose increments of 0.5 or 1 mg q7 or 14 days, max 3mg/day | SUPPRESSION OF ESTABLISHED LACTATION PO Adult 250µg q12h 2 days | TO INHIBIT PHYSIOLOGICAL LACTATION PO Adult 1mg as single dose on first day of postpartum |
Contra: Hypersensitivity, uncontrolled HTN, postpartum/puerperium in women with HTN, symptoms/history of serious psychiatric disorders, ergot alkaloids during the puerperium, glucose-galactose malabsorption
Precautions: CVD, Raynaud’s syndrome, history of psychosis, hepatic impairment, renal disease, HTN, pituitary tumor, galactose intolerance, severe lactose deficiency ADR: Serious: CVA, arrhythmias, bradycardia, acute MI, GI hemorrhage, hypotension, blurred vision, diplopia, Others: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal cramps, anorexia, dry mouth, urinary incontinence, polyuria, urinary retention, leg cramps, urticaria, rash, Headache, dizziness, fatigue, mania, insomnia, palpitations, extrasystoles DDI: Serious Macrolides increases drug levels, Metoclopramide reduces drug effect Diet: With food |
