Indications & Dose: BACTERIAL ENDOCARDITIS Prophylactic therapy PO Adult 2g as single dose 30-60 min before procedure Child 50mg/kg/dose, max 2g 30-60 min before procedureafter dental/upper respiratory tract procedures | CYSTITIS Uncomplicated PO Adult 1 or 2g/day as single dose/ in 2 equally divided doses | IMPETIGO PO Child 30mg/kg/day as single dose or in 2 equally divided doses | PHARYNGITIS/TONSILLITIS PO Adult 1g/day as single dose or in 2 equally divided doses 10 days Child 30mg/kg/day as single dose or in 2 equally divided doses 10 days | SKIN/SKIN STRUCTURE INFECT PO Adult 1g/day as single dose/ in 2 equally divided doses Child 30mg/kg/day in divided doses q12h | URINARY TRACT INFECT PO Adult 2g/day in 2 equally divided doses Child 30mg/kg/day in divided doses BID |
Contra: Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins
Precautions: Penicillin-sensitive patients, history of allergy, renal impairment, false Jaffé method of measuring creatinine level, false positive Coombs’ test, false-positive reactions for glucose using copper-reduction reactions ADR: Serious: Hypersensitivity reactions, Blood disorders, anaphylaxis, bleeding complications, nephrotoxicity, hepatitis, transient increases in liver enzyme values, cholestatic jaundice, convulsions, CNS toxicity, pseudomembranous colitis, Others: Skin rashes, urticaria, eosinophilia, fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pain at Inj site, local reactions, thrombophlebitis DDI: Serious Colestyramine delays absorption Monitor: Renal & hematological status, signs of anaphylaxis (first dose) |
