Indications & Dose: BACTERIAL EXACERBATIONS OF CHRONIC BRONCHITIS Acute PO Adult 500mg BID 10 days Child >13 yr: Same as adult dose | BRONCHITIS Acute PO Adult 500mg BID 10 days Child >13 yr: Same as adult dosesecondary to bacterial infect | PHARYNGITIS/TONSILLITIS PO Adult 500mg OD 10 days Child 2-12 yr: 7.5mg/kg BID 10 days, >13 yr: Same as adult dose | SINUSITIS Acute PO Adult 250/500mg BID 10 days Child 6 months-12yr: 7.5 or 15mg/kg BID 10 days, > 13 yr: Same as adult dose | SKIN/SKIN STRUCTURE INFECT Uncomplicated PO Adult 250/500mg BID or 500mg OD 10 days Child 2-12 yr: 20mg/kg/day 10 days, >13 yr: Same as adult dose |
Contra: Hypersensitivity
Precautions: Penicillin-sensitive patients, history of allergy, renal impairment, false positive Coombs’ test, false-positive reactions for glucose using copper-reduction reactions, false Jaffé method of measuring creatinine levels ADR: Serious: Hypersensitivity reactions, blood disorders, anaphylaxis, bleeding complications, hypoprothrombinemia, platelet dysfunction, nephrotoxicity, acute interstitial nephritis, hepatitis, transient increases in liver enzyme values, cholestatic jaundice, convulsions, CNS toxicity, overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, pseudomembranous colitis, thrombophlebitis, Others: skin rashes, urticaria, eosinophilia, fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pain at Inj site, local reactions Diet: With food Monitor: Assess patient at beginning and throughout therapy for infection & signs of anaphylaxis during first dose |
