Indications & Dose: ALZHEIMER’S DEMENTIA Mild-to-moderate PO Adult Initially 5mg OD; may increase to 10mg OD after 4-6wks | Moderate-to-severe PO Adult Initially 5mg OD; may increase to 10mg OD after 4-6wks; may increase further to 23mg OD after >3 months |
Contra: Hypersensitivity, patients recovering from bladder/GI surgery
Precautions: History of asthma, COPD, parkinson’s disease, seizures/at risk of developing, PUD, cardiovascular conduction disorders (sick-sinus syndrome) ADR: Serious: Seizures, atrial fibrillation, hypotension, vasodilation, cataracts, blurred vision, flushing, arthritis, Others: muscle cramps, dehydration, urinary frequency, increased libido, rash, diaphoresis, bruising, urticaria, dyspnea, bone fracture, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloating, epigastric pain, fecal incontinence, decreased appetite DDI: Serious Levodopa causes worsening of Parkinson’s disease, Paroxetine/Fluoxetine increases drug level, β-blockers increases risk of bradycardia, CCBs increases the risk of adverse effects (bradycardia), Erythromycin inhibits drug metabolism, Dexamethasone/Carbamazepine/Phenobarbital/Phenytoin/Rifampicin lowers drug levels, Ketoconazole modestly increases drug levels Diet: With/without food Monitor: Behavior, mood, bowel function, cognitive function, general function |
