Indications & Dose: DEPRESSION Mild-to-moderate PO Adult Initially 1mg/day, increased to 2mg after 1wk, then to max 3 mg/day. Doses >2mg should be given in 2 divided doses. If no response with in a wk discontinue therapy Elderly Initially 0.5mg/day, increased to 1mg after 1wk, then to max 2 mg/day. Doses >1mg should be given in 2 divided doses. If no response with in a wk discontinue therapy | PSYCHOSIS PO Adult Initially 3-9mg BID, max18 mg Elderly 1/4th of the initial dose | IM Adult Initially 20mg given as test dose, after 1 wk based upon response administer 20-40mg q2-4 wks. Dose >40mg should be divided between 2 separate injection sites Elderly 1/4th of the initial dose |
Contra: Hypersensitivity, severe CNS depression, coma, pheochromocytoma, prolactin-dependent tumors
Precautions: Asthma, PUD, bradycardia, arrhythmias, recent coronary occlusion, hyperthyroidism, seizures, parkinsonism, CVD, presence of acute infect/leucopenia, elderly, renal/hepatic impairment, angle-closure glaucoma, history of jaundice, paralytic ileus, myasthenia gravis, DM ADR: Serious: Pseudoparkinsonism, blood disorders, blurred vision, hypotension, tachycardia, hepatitis, seizures, NMS, Others: gynecomastia, anorexia, constipation, nasal congestion, dry eyes, drowsiness, sedation, urinary retention, hyperthermia, allergic reactions, galactorrhea, priapism Diet: Monitor: Vital signs, lipid profile, FBS, HbA1c, EPS, BMI |
