Indications & Dose: INDUCTION & MAINTENANCE OF GENERAL ANESTHESIA Inh Adult Initially 2-4%v/v is induced with oxygen or mixtures of nitrous oxide & oxygen or 0.5%v/v concentration may also be used & increased gradually to required level, MD 0.5-2% v/v Child Initially 1.5-2%v/v halothane is induced with oxygen or mixtures of nitrous oxide & oxygen. It takes for 5mins to attain surgical anesthesia Elderly Use with low concentrations |
Contra: Hypersensitivity
Precautions: Patients with pheochromocytoma, patients with cardiac, respiratory, renal/hepatic impairment, elderly, obese patients ADR: Serious: Malignant hyperthermia, cardiovascular/respiratory depression, hypotension, bradycardia, cardiac arrhythmias, bronchospasm, laryngospasm, hepatotoxicity, Others: nausea, vomiting, hiccup, coughing, involuntary muscle movements DDI: Serious Chlorpromazine enhances respiratory depressant effect of drug, Terbutaline/Adrenaline/Theophylline leads to cardiac arrhythmias, Midazolam potentiates drug action, Phenytoin toxicity raises Monitor: BP, HR, ECG, LFT, Temp |
