Indications & Dose: IRON-DEFICIENCY ANEMIA IN CRF IV Adult Patients on HD: 100mg over 2-5min once/thrice weekly during dialysis, administer no more than thrice weekly to a cumulative total dose of 1g (10 doses), may continue to administer at lowest dose necessary to maintain target Hb, hematocrit & iron storage parameters. Patients on PD: 2 inf of 300mg each over 1.5h 14 days apart, followed by a single 400mg inf over 2.5h 14 days later (total cumulative dose of 1g in 3 divided doses). Patient not on dialysis: 200mg over 2-5min on 5 different occasions within 14 days. Total cumulative dose 1g in 14 day period |
Contra: Hypersensitivity, any anemia not associated with iron deficiency, severe liver damage, kidney dysfunction, asthma, eczema, anaphylaxis/other allergic disorders
Precautions: Cancer-associated anemia, CVD, hepatic impairment, RA ADR: Serious: Seizures, hemosiderosis, syncope, chest pain, tachycardia, hypotension, hemolysis, lymphadenopathy, hypersensitivity reactions, Others: joint pain, myalgia, dyspnea, abnormal/metallic taste, tooth discoloration, fever, nausea, vomiting, hemochromatosis, anaphylaxis, dizziness, headache Monitor: Hypersensitivity reaction, serum ferritin levels, signs and symptoms of iron overload |
