Indications & Dose: PSYCHOSIS PO Adult 10mg BID, based on response increase dose upto 20-100mg/day in divided doses 2-4times/day, MD 20-60mg/day in divided doses Elderly 20-60mg/day | Acute IM Adult 300mg/day in 2 or 3 divided doses |
Contra: Hypersensitivity, severe CNS depression, coma
Precautions: Seizures, cerebral arteriosclerosis, severe hypotension, HTN, glaucoma, breast cancer, hepatic disease, bone marrow depression, parkinson’s disease, blood dyscrasias, urinary retention, concurrent use of other CNS/active drugs/anticholinergics, children <16 yrs ADR: Serious: Seizures, NMS, paralytic ileus, blood disorder, syncope, tardive dyskinesia, pseudoparkinsonism, orthostatic hypotension, HTN, ECG changes, blurred vision, hypersensitivity reactions, hyperpyrexia, facial edema, hepatocellular injury with hepatic enzyme elevations, Others: rash, weight gain/loss, drowsiness, insomnia, vertigo, headache, dizziness, weakness, akinesia, staggering/shuffling gait, agitation, extrapyramidal reactions DDI: Serious Carbamazepine serum level increases Diet: Monitor: BP, LFTs, NMS, Tardive dyskinesia |
