Indications & Dose: LABOR PAIN IV Adult 20mg q2-3h as needed, max 60mg | IM Adult 30mg/ day | PAIN Moderate-to-severe IM/SC Adult 30-60mg q3-4h, do not exceed 60mg/dose, max 360mg/day | PREANESTHETIC IM Child 1-16 yr: 0.5mg/kg |
Contra: Hypersensitivity, acute respiratory depression, obstructive airways disease, MI, HF, arterial/pulmonary HTN, porphyria
Precautions: Hypothyroidism, adrenocortical insufficiency, renal/hepatic impairment, prostatic hyperplasia, hypotension, shock, inflammatory/obstructive bowel disorders, myasthenia gravis, elderly/debilitated patients, infants & neonates ADR: Serious: Respiratory depression, hypotension, muscle rigidity, raised ICP, rhabdomyolysis, anaphylactic reactions, convulsions, coma, orthostatic hypotension, Others: nausea, vomiting, constipation, drowsiness, confusion, dry mouth, dizziness, sweating, facial flushing, headache, vertigo, hypothermia, decreased libido, hallucinations DDI: Serious Amitriptyline increases respiratory depression, Aspirin leads to renal papillary necrosis, SSRIs leads to serotonin syndrome symptoms, Methadone/Fentanyl/Morphine precipitate opioid withdrawal symptoms, Paracetamol rate of absorption reduces Monitor: Relief of pain, respiratory & mental status, BP |
