Indications & Dose: MONOSYMPTOMATIC HYPOCHONDRIA PO Adult Iniitially 4mg/day adjusted to max 16mg/day Elderly Initially 2mg/day | PARANOID PSYCHOSES PO Adult Iniitially 4mg/day adjusted to max 16mg/day Elderly Initially 2mg/day | SCHIZOPHRENIA PO Child 12–18 yr: Initially 1mg/day, increased according to response in steps of 2–4mg at interval of not less than 1 wk, usual range 2–20mg/day | TOURETTE’S SYNDROME PO Adult Initially 1-2mg/day in divided doses, increase as needed every other day, usual range 7-10mg/day, max 10mg/day or 0.2mg/kg/day (whichever is less) Child 2-12 yr: 1-4mg/day, 12-18 yr: 2-10mg/day |
Contra: patients with pre-existing prolongation of the QT interval/history of congenital QT prolongation/cardiac arrhythmias, hypokalemia/hypomagnesemia
Precautions: stop drug if the QT interval >500ms ADR: Serious: hypotension, ventricular arrhythmias, ECG abnormalities, prolongation of QT interval & T-wave changes, Others: sedation DDI: Serious Levodopa activity antagonizes, Mefloquine increased risk of arrhythmias, Erythromycin/Clarithromycin increases cardiotoxicity, Cilostazol/Aprepitant/Dasatinib/Imatinib increases drug levels, SSRIs/Amphotericin-B increases the risk of torsade de pointes Diet: Monitor: ECG before & after therapy |
