Indications & Dose: MALARIA PO Adult As sulfate or hydrochloride or dihydrochloride: 600mg q8h 7 days Child 10mg/kg q8h 7 days | NOCTURNAL LEG CRAMPS PO Adult 200-300mg HS (as sulfate or bisulfate) Child 10mg/kg body weight q8h 7 days | PLASMODIUM FALCIPARUM MALARIA Complicated/Severe IV Adult Loading dose 20mg/day (as dihydrochloride), max 1.4g over 4h with maintenance infusions after 8h (calculated from the start of previous infusion) |
| Contra: Hypersensitivity, history of hypersensitivity reactions, G6PD deficiency, optic neuritis, tinnitus, nocturnal leg cramps
Precautions: Myasthenia gravis, history of arrhythmia, CVD ADR: Serious: atrial fibrillation, AV block, cardiac arrest, hypotension, irregular rhythm, QT prolongation, tachycardia, seizure, blood disorders, SJS, TEN, erythema multiforme, hepatitis, pulmonary edema, Others: tinnitus, myalgia, dyspnea, hypoglycemia, GI irritation, nausea, vomiting, dermatitis, cutaneous rash, confusion, dizziness, headache DDI: Serious Aluminum Hydroxide Gel delays/decreases drug absorption, Rifampicin leads to subtherapeutic drug level, Digoxin toxicity occurs Diet: With/without food Monitor: signs & symptoms of hypersensitivity reaction, cinchonism, CBC, LFT |
