Indications & Dose: BIPOLAR MANIA PO Adult 2-3mg/day, then increase 1mg at interval >24h, max 6mg/day Child 500µg/day then increase by 0.5 or 1mg upto 2.5mg/day at interval >24h max 6mg/day | SCHIZOPHRENIA PO Adult Initially 2mg/day, may increased by 4mg next day, subsequently adjust the dose by 1-2mg as tolerated at interval >24h MD 4-6mg/day max 16mg/day Child 500µg/day then increase by 0.5 or 1mg upto 3mg/day at interval >24h max 6mg/day Elderly Initially 0.5mg BID, then increase by 0.5mg bid up to 1-2mg BID |
Contra: Hypersensitivity
Precautions: CVD, parkinsonism, renal/hepatic disease, seizure, elderly, tardive dyskinesia, breast cancer ADR: Serious: arthralgia, myalgia, NMS, rhinitis, blood disorders, orthostatic hypotension, tremor, tachycardia, Others: xerostomia, agitation, anxiety, nausea, vomiting, constipation, polyuria, blurred vision, fatigue, dyskinesia, urinary incontinence, akathisia, acne DDI: Serious Bupivacaine causes exaggerated hypotension, Simvastatin causes rhabdomyolysis, Antidiabetics increases glucose intolerance, Phenytoin leads to extrapyramidal symptoms, Levodopa/Itraconazole raises drug level, Rifampicin/Carbamazepine reduces drug level, HIV protease inhibitors results in NMS, ataxia, lethargy & extrapyramidal adverse effects Diet: With/Without food Monitor: Vital signs,lipid profile,fasting blood glucose/Hgb A1c,CBC,BMI,waist circumference,BP,mental status,extrapyramidal symptoms,body weight |
