Indications & Dose: DEPRESSION TD Adult Initially 6mg OD, dose may be titrated to 3mg/day q2wk, max 12mg/day if required Elderly 6mg OD | PARKINSON’S DISEASE Mono therapy PO Adult 5mg BID or 10mg OD. For dispersible tablet: Initially 1.25mg/day 6 wk, may increase to 2.5mg/day based on clinical response, max 2.5mg/day Elderly 5mg OD, may be increased to 10mg |
Contra: Active ulcer, hypersensitivity, concomitant drug therapy, pheochromocytoma
Precautions: PUD, uncontrolled HTN, arrhythmias, angina, severe liver/ kidney dysfunction, psychosis ADR: Serious: orthostatic hypotension, myopathy, Others: chest pain, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, confusion, headache, tremor, vertigo, dizziness, psychosis, hallucinations, skin reactions, depression, dry mouth, sore throat, difficulty in micturition DDI: Serious Pethidine causes fluctuating stupor, agitation, muscle rigidity, sweating & raised temperature, Dopamine increases BP, Combined hormonal contraceptives increases drug bioavailability, Moclobemide increases risk of hypotensive reactions, Nortriptyline/Amitriptyline leads to hypomania, Bupropion leads to orthostatic hypotension, Venlafaxine/Fluoxetine leads to serotonin syndrome Diet: Before food Monitor: BP, symptoms of parkinsonism, general mood & behavior, suicidal ideation |
