Indications & Dose: OBESITY PO Adult Initially 10mg/day, may increase to 15mg/day after 4 wk as needed & tolerated max 15mg/day MD 5-15mg/day Child >16 yr: Same as adult dose & treatment should not be given for longer than 1 yr |
Contra: Severe hepatic/renal impairment, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, uncontrolled/ poorly controlled HTN, history of cerebrovascular disease/CVD, bipolar disorder, Tourette’s syndrome, hyperthyroidism, pheochromocytoma, BPH, history of drug/alcohol abuse
Precautions: well-controlled HTN, mild-to- moderate renal impairment, glaucoma, patients with a history of depression, seizures/gallstones ADR: Serious: HTN, abnormal bleeding, thrombocytopenia, ARF, seizures, blurred vision, flu-like symptoms, Others: headache, insomnia, constipation, diarrhea, back pain, increased appetite, dizziness, anxiety, drowsiness, nervousness DDI: Serious SSRIs/MAOIs causes serotonin syndrome, Azoles increases drug levels, Dihydroergotamine/Dextromethorphan/Fentanyl/Pentazocine/Pethidine/Sumatriptan/Tryptophan/Venlafaxine leads to serotonin syndrome Diet: With/without food (low calorie diet preferred) Monitor: Weight, waist circumference, BP, HR |
