Indications & Dose: SCHIZOPHRENIA PO Adult Initially 50-100mg TID, titrate dose to no more than 100mg weekly max 800mg/day in 2-4 divided doses |
Contra: Severe CNS depression, severe hyper-/hypotensive heart disease, coma, patients with congenital long QT syndrome, history of cardiac arrhythmias, concurrent use of drugs that inhibit thioridazine metabolism, genetic defect of reduced CYP2D6 activity
Precautions: decreased GI motility, paralytic ileus, urinary retention, BPH, visual problems, elderly ADR: Serious: EPS, seizure, anticholinergic effects, ECG changes, hypotension, peripheral edema, blood disorders, hepatotoxicity, tremor, blurred vision, Others: nasal congestion, akathisia, dizziness, rash, amenorrhea, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, difficulty in urination DDI: Serious Bromocriptine causes EPS, Phenylpropanolamine causes fatal ventricular fibrillation, Melatonin increases CNS toxicity, Ritonavir increases drug plasma levels, Fluvoxamine/Fluoxetine/Paroxetine/Pindolol/Propranolol increases risk of arrhythmias, Diuretics increases risk of electrolyte imbalances & arrhythmias, TCAs increases tardive dyskinesia incidence, Lithium leads to severe EPS & neurotoxicity, Phenytoin levels are altered Monitor: ECG, vital signs, serum potassium, lipid profile, fasting blood glucose & Hgb A1c, BMI, mental status |
