Indications & Dose: DEPRESSION PO Adult IR tablet: Initially 75 mg/day in 2 or 3 divided doses max 225-375mg, ER capsule/tablet: Initially 37.5-75mg OD for first 4-7 days, may increase to 75mg/day max 225mg Child <18 yr: Not recommended | GENERALIZED ANXIETY DISORDER PO Adult ER capsule: Initially 37.5-75mg OD max 225mg | PANIC DISORDER PO Adult ER capsule: Initially 37.5mg OD 1 wk, increase to 75mg OD after 7 days max 225mg | SOCIAL ANXIETY DISORDER PO Adult ER capsule/tablet: 75mg OD |
| Contra: Hypersensitivity to venlafaxine, Use of MAOIs, cardiac arrhythmia, uncontrolled HTN
Precautions: History of epilepsy/heart disease/hyperthyroidism, hepatic /renal impairment, susceptibility to angle-closure glaucoma, history of bleeding disorders/mania/hypomania, anxiety, insomnia ADR: Serious: Vasodilatation, mydriasis, paresthesia, arthralgia, HTN, orthostatic hypotension, arrhythmias, blood disorders, erythema Multiforme/SJS, ventricular tachycardia/fibrillation, photosensitivity, pancreatitis, galactorrhoea, hyponatremia, prolongation of QT interval/ torsade de pointes, menorrhagia, suicidal ideation, Others: dysarthria, tremor, alopecia, urinary retention, abdominal pain, chills/ fever, dizziness, constipation, anorexia, weight gain/loss, Nausea, headache, insomnia DDI: Serious Phenelzine/Isocarboxazid/Tranylcypromine causes potentially life-threatening reactions such as agitation, hypomania, diaphoresis, shivering and dilated pupils Others Haloperidol causes sedation, agitation, movement disorders, urinary retention, Linezolid causes serotonin syndrome (myoclonic jerks, drowsy, confusion), Indinavir efficacy reduces, Captopril increases BP Diet: With food Monitor: BP, HR, cholesterol, social functioning |
