Indications & Dose: ATYPICAL PNEUMONIA PO Adult 900mg/day in 3 divided doses | HYPONATREMIA Chronic PO Adult Initially 0.9-1.2g/day in divided doses, gradually reduced to MD 600-900mg/dayassociated with SIADH | SUSCEPTIBLE BACTERIAL INFECT PO Adult 150mg QID or 300mg BID Child >8 yr: 8-12mg/kg/day divided q6-12hacne, gonorrhea, pertussis & UTI |
Contra: Hypersensitivity, children <8 yrs, concomitant use with methoxyflurane, SLE
Precautions: Hepatic/renal impairment, avoid direct exposure to sunlight/artificial UV light, myasthenia gravis ADR: Serious: phototoxic reactions, exacerbation of SLE, angioneurotic edema, pseudotumor cerebri, erythema multiforme, pericarditis, bulging fontanels, SJS, ARF, hemolytic anemia, anaphylaxis, anaphylactoid purpura, nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, esophageal ulcerations, pancreatitis, liver enzymes increased, myasthenic syndrome, tinnitus, blood disorders, Others: pulmonary infiltrates, lupus-like syndrome, polyarthralgia, tooth discoloration, visual disturbances, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, dysphagia, enterocolitis, dizziness, headache, rash, pigmentation of skin, urticaria, discoloration of thyroid gland (brown/black) DDI: Serious Aluminium hydroxide reduces bioavailability of drug Diet: 1h before/2h after food with plenty of fluid Monitor: CBC, LFT & renal function test |
