Indications & Dose: CYSTICERCOSIS Combination therapy PO Adult 50mg/kg/day in 3 divided doses 14 days with prednisolone (or similar corticosteroid) given 2–3 days before & throughout treatment period Child >4 yr: Same as adult dose | DERMAL CYSTICERCOSIS PO Adult 60mg/kg/day in 3 divided doses 6 days Child >4 yr: Same as adult dose | DIPHYLLOBOTHRIUM LATUM INFECT PO Adult 10–25mg/kg single dose Child >4 yr: Same as adult dose | HYMENOLEPIS NANA INFECT PO Adult 15–25mg/kg single dose Child >4 yr: Same as adult dose | TAENIA SAGINATA & T.SOLIUM INFECT PO Adult 5–10mg/kg single dose Child >4 yr: Same as adult dose |
Contra: Hypersensitivity, ocular cysticercosis, concurrent use with strong CYP3A4 inducers, history of seizures/signs of CNS involvement
Precautions: CVD, cerebral cysticercosis, should not drive/operate machinery during/after treatment of 24h ADR: Serious: Intracranial HTN, hypersensitivity reactions, seizures, Others: Eosinophilia, abdominal discomfort, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, malaise, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, fever, urticaria, pruritus, hyperthermia DDI: Serious Albendazole bioavailability increased, Rifampicin/Dexamethasone decreases drug levels & its efficacy, Azoles increases drug levels, Cimetidine increases drug levels & its efficacy in neurocysticercosis, Chloroquine reduces drug bioavailability, Fosphenytoin/Carbamazepine/Phenobarbital/Phenytoin reduces drug levels |
