Indications & Dose: ACNE TP Adult Apply 1% of preparation to the affected area | AMNIONITIS IV Adult 450-900mg TID | BACTERIAL ENDOCARDITIS Prophylactic therapy IV/IM Adult 600mg single dose Child 20mg/kg 30-60min before surgeryin patients undergoing surgeries | BITE WOUNDS (CANINE) Combination therapy PO Adult 300mg QID with fluoroquinolone | GANGRENOUS PYOMYOSITIS Combination therapy IV Adult 900mg TID with penicillin G | INFECT Severe PO Adult Capsule: 450mg q6h Child Capsule: 16-20mg/kg/day in 3 or 4 equally divided doses, Solution: 17-25mg/kg/day in 3 or 4 equally divided doses | IV/IM Adult 0.6-2.7g/day in 2-4 equally divided doses depending up on severity of the infect, may be increased to 4.8g/day (IV) in life-threatening infect | Severe IV/IM Child Infants & child >1 month: 450mg/m2/day | Mild-to-moderate IV/IM Child Infants & children >1 month: 15-25mg/kg/day in 3-4 equally divided doses | OROFACIAL/PARAPHARYNGEAL SPACE INFECT PO Adult 150-450mg q6h 1 wk, max 1.8 g/day | IV Adult 600-900mg TID | PELVIC INFLAMMATORY DISEASE Acute Combination therapy IV Adult 900mg TID with other antibiotics |
Contra: Hypersensitivity, porphyria, diarrheal states
Precautions: Atopic patients, hepatic impairment, neonates, avoid rapid IV administration ADR: Serious: Cardiac arrest, hypotension, thrombophlebitis, liver function test abnormalities, jaundice, blood disorders, polyarthritis, renal dysfunction, anaphylactoid reactions, Others: sterile abscess/pain, erythema multiforme, exfoliative dermatitis, pruritus, rash, urticaria, vaginitis, abdominal pain, diarrhea, esophagitis, nausea, vomiting DDI: Serious Neuromuscular blockers efficacy increased & prolonged, Gentamicin leads to acute renal failure, Ciclosporin levels reduced Diet: With food Monitor: Colitis, resolution of symptoms, CBC, LFTs, renal function tests periodically during prolonged therapy |
