Indications & Dose: DIARRHEA PO Adult Initially 10mg, followed by 5mg q6h, then reduce as control is achieved, may increase to max 20mg/day in chronic conditions. Diphenoxylate usually given with subclinical doses of atropine in an attempt to discourage abuse |
Contra: Patients with jaundice, intestinal obstruction, antibiotic associated colitis, diarrhea associated with enterotoxin-producing bacteria, infants
Precautions: Hepatic impairment, young children, patients with IBD ADR: Serious: Paralytic ileus, toxic megacolon, pancreatitis, hypersensitivity reactions, Others: Anorexia, nausea, vomiting, abdominal distension/discomfort, headache, drowsiness, dizziness, restlessness, euphoria, depression, numbness of the extremities |
