Indications & Dose: GOOD MEMORY AND LEARNING PO Adult Initially 5mg OD-BID, increase by 5-10mg at weekly intervals to max 60mg/day in divided doses. Dose may vary according to the brands Child =6 yrs: Same as adult dose | NARCOLEPSY Symptomatic therapy PO Adult 10mg BIT-TID, max 60mg/day |
Contra: Hypersensitivity, Glaucoma, Tourette syndrome, Marked anxiety, tension, agitation, severe hypertension, angina, arrhythmias, heart failure, recent MI, hyperthyroidism, thyrotoxicosis, Concurrent use of halogenated anesthetics, MAO inhibitor use within past 14 days
Precautions: Hypertension, seizures, psychosis, suicidal or homicidal tendencies, slow growth (children), elderly or debilitated patients, Child <6yrs ADR: Serious: tremor, hypertension, hypotension, reversible ischemic neurologic deficit, toxic psychosis, palpitations, tachycardia, Raynaud’s phenomenon, blurred vision, hypersensitivity, physical/psychological drug dependence, drug tolerance, peripheral coldness, Others: headache, irritability, hyperactivity, insomnia, akathisia, dyskinesia, restlessness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cramps, dry mouth, anorexia, rash, contact sensitization, metallic taste, fever, suppression of weight gain (children) DDI: Others Alcohol causes additive hypotension, Bupropion Causes grandmal seizures & MI, Vasopressors/MAOIs causes hypertensive crisis, Inhalational anesthetics causes potential risk of hypertension and/or arrhythmias, Phenylbutazone/AntiConvulsants/SSRIs increased effects, Atomoxetine increases methylphenidate levels, Guanethidine leads to antagonism of hypotensive effect, Antihypertensives level decreases, TCAs levels & rate of response increases leads to increased beneficial & adverse effects, Sertraline seizures Diet: Before meals (30-45min) Monitor: BP, HR, signs & symptoms of depression, aggression, CBC, LFT, growth rate (Child), signs of worsening erythema, blistering, edema, CNS stimulation |
