Indications & Dose: BENIGN GASTRIC/DUODENAL ULCER PO Adult 200µg QID or 400 BID 4 wk, continue up to 8 wk if needed | CERVICAL RIPENING PO Adult Single dose of 400µg 3-4h prior to surgical termination of pregnancy in first trimester | INDUCTION OF LABOUR VAG Adult Initially 25µg, repeat after 6h if needed, increase to 50µg q6h for up to 4 doses if no response (If induction of labour with oxytocin is continued, then administration of oxytocin should be avoided within 8h of using misoprostol) | MEDICAL TERMINATION OF PREGNANCY VAG Adult Misoprostol 800µg 36–48h after mifepristone, 200mg as single dose PO (unless abortion already complete) | NSAID-INDUCED GASTRIC ULCERS Prophylactic therapy PO Adult 200µg QID, reduce dose to 100 µg QID if not tolerated |
Contra: Hypersensitivity, PUD in pregnancy, women at increased risk of uterine rupture
Precautions: Children, hypotension, IBD ADR: Others: Headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, flatulence, miscarriage, menstrual disorders, postmenopausal bleeding, increased uterine contractility, skin rashes DDI: Serious Indomethacin/Diclofenac increases the incidence of abdominal pain & diarrhea Diet: With food (last dose of the day should be taken at bedtime Monitor: Vaginal bleeding |
