Indications & Dose: HYPERTENSION PO Adult Initially 1.25mg OD, MD 2.5-5mg/day as single dose up to 10mg/day as neededFirst dose should be given at bedtime | MAJOR CV EVENTS Prophylactic therapy PO Adult 2.5mg OD 1 wk, then 5mg OD next 3 wk, dose may be increased as tolerated to MD 10mg OD | POST MI PO Adult Initially 2.5mg BID, increased to 5mg BID after 2 days MD 2.5-5 mg BID |
Contra: hypersensitivity, angioedema with previous ACEI use
Precautions: cholestatic jaundice, cough, hyperkalemia, hypotension/syncope, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with obstruction, severe aortic stenosis, surgery, pre-existing renal impairment, concomitant therapy with ARBs ADR: Serious: hypotension/postural hypotension, syncope, angina, hyperkalemia, renal impairment, increased Secr, Others: nausea, vomiting, cough, rash, urticaria DDI: Serious Telmisartan increases hypotensive symptoms, syncope, renal impairment & hyperkalemia, Aliskiren leads to marked reduction in BP, Sirolimus results in tongue edema Diet: With/without food Monitor: BP, Secr, K levels, CBC |
