Indications & Dose: TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS PO Adult Initially 500µg, adjust dose according to response at an intervals of 1–2 wk, max 4mg as single dose, total of 16mg/day given as mono therapy or in combination with metformin/thiazolidinedione |
Contra: Hypersensitivity, DKA, type 1 DM, concurrent gemfibrozil therapy
Precautions: Substitute insulin during intercurrent illness, elderly, hepatic/renal impairment, malnourished patients ADR: Serious: IHD, hypoglycemia, anaphylactoid reaction, arrhythmia, blurred vision, hemolytic anemia, hepatic dysfunction, HTN, SJS, thrombocytopenia, Others: alopecia, URTI, chest pain, diarrhea, constipation, tooth disorder, UTI, back pain, arthralgia, allergy, Headache DDI: Serious Trimethoprim/Itraconazole increases drug level Others Fosphenytoin/Carbamazepine/Phenobarbital/Phenytoin/Primidone may reduce drug levels and efficacy, Rifampicin reduces drug effects, Gatifloxacin/Clarithromycin/Gemfibrozil/Telithromycin results in hypoglycemia Diet: Before food (30 min) Monitor: Glucose, HbA1c levels, weight & lipid profile |
