Indications & Dose: PARTIAL-ONSET SEIZURES Adjunct therapy PO Adult 400mg/day for 1wk, MD 800mg/day to max 1200mg/day(initiate after patient tolerate MD)Dose may vary among the brands |
Contra: Hypersensitivity, severe hepatic impairment, concomitant use of CYP3A4 inducers
Precautions: Withdraw gradually, during driving/operating machinery ADR: Serious: Blurred vision, peripheral edema, dysarthria, memory impairment, hypertension, tremor, balance disorder, visual impairment, hyponatremia, Others: Dizziness, somnolence, nausea/vomiting, headache, diplopia, fatigue, nystagmus, cough, ataxia, vertigo, diarrhea, asthenia, falls, depression, rash, constipation, abdominal pain, gait disturbance, UTI, insomnia, gastritis DDI: Others Topiramate/Lamotrigine clearance increases, Carbamazepine clearance increases, decreases Eslicarbazepine levels, Phenytoin/Barbiturates decreases Eslicarbazepine levels, Cisapride/Astemizole/Clopidogrel/Ergotamine/Ethinyl estradiol/Lovastatin/Sildenafil/Sirolimus/Tolvaptan effect decreases and leads to serious/life threatening interaction, Oxcarbazepine either increases effects of other drug (pharmacodynamic synergism), Artemether/Abiraterone/Dienogest/Estradiol valerate/Lumefantrine/Paracetamol/Praziquantel/Roflumilast level decreases Diet: With/without food Monitor: Na levels, for breathing difficulties/swelling, for notable changes in behavior |
