Drugs Class ::
Action Stimulates skeletal beta receptors to produce vasodilation; stimulates cardiac function (increased contractility, heart rate, and cardiac output) and relaxes uterus. At higher doses, inhibits platelet aggregation and decreases blood viscosity.
Indications for Drugs ::
Indications Possibly effective for treatment of cerebral vascular insufficiency, peripheral vascular disease caused by arteriosclerosis obliterans, thromboangitis obliterans, Raynaud’s disease. Unlabeled use(s): Treatment of dysmenorrhea, premature labor.
Drug Dose ::
Route/Dosage
ADULTS: PO 10 to 20 mg tid or qid.
Contraindication ::
Contraindications Arterial bleeding; use during immediate postpartum period.

Adverse Reactions
CV: Hypotension; tachycardia; chest pain. CNS: Dizziness; weakness. DERM: Severe rash. GI: Nausea; vomiting; abdominal distress.

Patient/Family Education
- Instruct patient to report the following symptoms to physician: Fast heartbeat, chest pain, pounding in chest, severe rash, flushing, weakness, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain.
- Caution patient to avoid sudden position changes to prevent orthostatic hypotension.
