Description of Diabetic gastroparesis (diabetic nerve disease affecting stomach)
Gastroparesis is delayed gastric emptying. When your blood glucose levels remain high over a long period of time, your nerves get damaged. When the vagus nerve (nerve that controls movement of food through your gut) is damaged, your stomach muscles do not function optimally. Food you ingest remains in the stomach for an unusually long time as the stomach takes too long to empty its contents. This condition is called diabetic gastroparesis.
