Description of Emergency contraception
Emergency contraception, also called postcoital contraception, can be used as a contraceptive method to prevent pregnancy after an unprotected sexual intercourse. It is recommended for use within 5 days after the act of intercourse. There are two methods of emergency contraception – intrauterine devices (IUDs) and emergency contraceptive pills (commonly known as the morning after pill).
