ATYPICAL ANTI-PSYCHOTIC |
Indications & Dose: BIPOLAR DISORDER Combination therapy SL Adult Initially 5mg BID, may increase to 10mg BID based on tolerability with lithium/valproate | Mono therapy SL Adult Initially 10mg BID, decrease to 5mg BID if dose not tolerated | SCHIZOPHRENIA SL Adult Acute: Initially 5mg BID. MD 5mg BID, max 10mg BID after 1wk based on tolerability |
Contra: Hypersensitivity, dementia-related psychosis, severe hepatic impairment
Precautions: Tardive dyskinesia, NMS, history of cardiac arrhythmias/ other conditions that increase risk of torsades de pointes, concurrent use of CNS drugs/alcohol, seizures, hyperprolactinemia, cognitive/motor impairment, Concomitant use of drugs that prolong QTc interval ADR: Serious: Extrapyramidal symptoms other than akathisia, oral hypoesthesia, arthralgia, Others: Somnolence, headache, dizziness, insomnia, weight gain, akathisia, anxiety, fatigue, dyspepsia, dry mouth, dysgeusia, toothache, depression, extremity pain DDI: Others Sildenafil increases asenapine effects & leads to serious/life threatening reactions, Mefloquine increases asenapine toxicity, Ondansetron increases QTc interval, Saquinavir increases risk of QT prolongation & cardiac arrhythmias, Thioridazine level increases |
